When I returned to my homeland in 2018 I bought a BMW touring bike and rode across the country, seeing many places I always wanted to visit, but more importantly visiting cousins I had not known since I was a child. Some of whom I am very close to now from California to the deep south.
A person’s values—and what they truly stand for—can sometimes be difficult to define. To me, however, there is an important distinction: either we believe in an established set of principles, such as the rule of law, or our convictions shift according to what suits us at a particular time or under particular circumstances.
I believe in natural law and biblical principles. These are absolutes. Like most people, I do not always live up to them, but wandering from them can lead to consequences we neither intended nor desired.
Although I generally hold a conservative point of view, I also recognize value in certain ideas that may not fit neatly within conventional conservatism. For example, I spent most of my life in Australia, where there is a national health-care system. Some American conservatives might regard such a system as a step toward socialism, but I disagree. In my view, a nation as prosperous as the United States should provide some form of national health-care support—even if it is simply a safety net for those who cannot afford medical insurance.
Not every issue in life can be placed neatly within a fixed ideological box. There are many gray areas in which principles must be thoughtfully applied, competing concerns carefully weighed, and differing ideas openly debated.
My passion to write has come to fruition. I will continue my biblical study and writing. This is going to include weekly bible story blogs, periodicals and books.
I am broadening my literary content to include a cultural aspect and that will include American culture, historical subjects and contemporary politics.
